This thread is to allow members to propose new games to be added to the list of games of interest to our group.Members who add games that are not related to Axis and Allies should also give their reasoning why the proposed game should be added, and all members are encouraged to give thier oppinions on whether or not a game should be added to the list. Anyone who hosts is, of course, free to offer any game they wish to play. This list is just basically a guideline to keep the meetup group from becoming a "game of the month" club and as such hosts are encouraged to at least offer games from this list as choices to be played. thanks, D.K.M.

Another proposed candidate from Andrew is:

History of the World (avalon hill): i believe up to 6 can play this game and although not very Axis and Allies like, it is very educational, interesting and I for one wouldn't mind playing it occasionally.biggrin

"The War Game:WWII", has been proposed by Geoff. I would definitely give this one a try.

Just picked up an interesting old Civil War game called "Battle-Cry".It's more chess like with the only random dice generation being for the number of moves you get each turn, other than that , its pure strategy. If interested, it will be availiable at the meetups at my place.

Dennis,

A game that is getting rave reviews is Conflict of Heroes. This is a tactical, squad level game set on the Eastern Front in WWII. It uses large chits and hexes instead of mini's. So, not much to drool over for plastic mongers. However, the game system is just outstanding. I definitely want to pick this one up at some point (don't know when). It would be a great 2 (or more) player filler. Several short, intense scenarios that are fairly simple to learn, but difficult to master.

I know I haven't logged as many hours at these gametables as other, but I think Twilight Imperium may appeal to a good chunk of the players in this group. It is a six player Sci-fi themed war game with a European style point system which controls victory conditions and turn order. The game is designed to include a degree a randomness so that the route to victory will be slightly different in each game, and cross table alliances and diplomacy play a huge role in the game.

The war game mechanics are much like axis and allies and shogun in that you have different units with different attack and defense values and your ability to build units is based upon the value of your territory and the number of "ICs" you own.

The point system is much like that in Puerto Rico and the game employs strategy cards.

The game takes about six hours, but there is a in game clock that insures that winner will be declared in about six rounds. There is a lot information on the web, and if there turns out to be a strong interest in the game I wouldn't mind picking it up.

History of the World is more like Risk with an historical flavor, as it plays out over seven Epochs. I have added two sets of counters to my game so that all seven major Forces per Epoch can be active, plus the minor force invoked by one of each Epoch's Event cards.

My house rule is that no player shall be required to play using the minor force Event card during more than one Epoch; in fact arbitrarily designating the player with the highest score as the minor force in the next Epoch might be a good way to pass the hot potato so to speak.

I've never had eight players available to play this variant of HOTW, so I've only tried it solitaire a couple of times.

HOTW works solitaire about as well as A & A, possibly better, as each Epoch's forces are randomly assigned and therefore there isn't any planning, anticipation, or catching the opponent by surprize in HOTW.

Could I suggest Diplomacy? It has been almost 18 year since I last played, but it is a "wicked good time." Fairly easy to learn, but very difficult to master...
