I was looking at the unfinished game poll and thought I’d post a method that might be useful for determining a winner in any unfinished games when the players opt to not finish it in the future. A spreadsheet could easily be created to record where the game ended (like the mid game record sheets out there) and assign a point valuation system using the data to determine the winning side. This could be something agreed upon by members initially and revised along the way before the start of the next year to keep the rankings consistent.
Please provide any input you feel important regarding how the points should be scored and/or your thoughts on using something like this to begin with. Below is just an example (for AA50) that can serve as a jumping off point. Adapting one for AA42 should be easy enough. For each side… Start with IPC totals for controlled territories Add National Objective bonuses Add IPCs in hand Add unused Research tokens (?) Add IPC cost values for units remaining on map (including controlled ICs and AA guns) Subtract any IC damage Bonuses added for… Each controlled Victory City that started game under control of the opposing side (bigger bonus for capitals): -- Ex. +100% Income value bonus for the Victory Cities captured (?) -- Ex. +200% Income value bonus for the Capital Cities captured (?) Developments? Opposing Nations eliminated? Let's hear your thoughts? Edited by Justin S on Oct 28, 2009 6:44 PM |

I am not sure a "fact' sheet could be put together that would accurately determine a winner. So much depends on where your units are and not what your units are. For me it takes looking at the board and determining who has the initiative and can the opposing Player regain the initiative. If not then the game is pretty much over.

You'd be surprised just how specific an Excel spreadsheet can be designed. Most anything you can imagine can be translated over, it's just a matter of programming it into Excel. "Facts" don't have to be the only factor in the equation and agree that where your units are and what your units are is far more important than how many of them you have (This ain't Risk after all!).
Throw out some situations you'd like to see taken into account and I will take up the challenge of trying to have it be reflected in a spreadsheet. It's entirely possible that the requirements of an acceptable spreadsheet might be above my skill level, but I'd like to give it a try if it were something that might be of interest. Maybe a simpler spreadsheet can be some factor in the process with member votes being another; maybe not at all. |
